U.S. stocks end near session lows; Dow loses nearly 250 points


U.S. stocks finished near the session’s lows Monday, sending the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA back into negative territory year to date.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered its biggest one-day percentage decline in two weeks, losing 2.1%, or 247.49 points, to close at 11,397. The index gave back all of Friday’s 1.4% gain, and is down 1.6% year to date.

“The market was overbought and all it takes is the slightest thing to spook people to take profits,” said Matthew Tuttle, chief executive officer at Tuttle Wealth Management in Stamford, Conn. “Quarterly earnings will be really important over the next few days and, of course, Europe will continue to dominate the discussion.”
The S&P 500 Index SPX fell 23.72 points to end at 1,200.86, down 4.5% year to date, with all of the index’s sectors losing ground. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP lost 52.93 points to 2,614.92, trading 1.4% lower year to date.
