U.S Stocks Plunge on Middle East Tensions

 Stocks tanked Tuesday, with major indices suffering their steepest drops in months, as mounting tensions in Libya and the Middle East sent oil prices soaring.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 178 points, or 1.4%, to finish at 12,212, its biggest percentage drop since Nov. 16. The S&P 500slumped 27 points, or 2.1%, to close at 1315, its largest percentage drop since January, while theNasdaq took the worst hit, dropping 77 points, or 2.7%, to finish at 2756, as tech stocks bore the brunt of the rout. It was the worst one-day outing for the tech-laden index since August.
